Urban Youth Moves – City Inclusion Trails for Youth (CITY)

The Urban Youth Moves – City Inclusion Trails for Youth (CITY) project aims to transform urban environments into inclusive, accessible, and engaging spaces for young people, particularly those facing social, economic, or accessibility barriers. The project responds to the growing challenges of limited access to safe, inclusive, and youth-friendly public spaces, as well as the increasing levels of physical inactivity among young people in urban areas.

Through the development of CITY Inclusion Trails, the project introduces an innovative approach that combines urban hiking, community storytelling, and participatory urban planning. These activities enable young people to actively explore their cities while contributing to the co-creation of more inclusive and accessible urban environments. By doing so, the project promotes active lifestyles, social inclusion, and a stronger sense of belonging and well-being among participants.

CITY also addresses the limited recognition of urban mobility as a tool for social inclusion and youth empowerment. By engaging young people—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds—in meaningful, participatory experiences, the project fosters active citizenship and supports their involvement in shaping more inclusive cities.

The initiative brings together organisations from different European countries to co-develop and test innovative and scalable models of inclusive urban mobility. In line with the Erasmus+ Sport priorities, the project strengthens grassroots organisations, promotes cooperation at the European level, and contributes to the development of inclusive, community-driven approaches to sport and physical activity.

Objectives:

  • To promote social inclusion among young people through sport and physical activity by developing accessible and inclusive CITY Inclusion Trails;

  • To encourage active lifestyles and improve young people’s physical and mental well-being by addressing sedentary behaviours in urban contexts;

  • To foster youth engagement and active citizenship by involving young people in participatory urban planning and community storytelling activities;

  • To strengthen the capacity of grassroots youth and sport organisations to design and implement inclusive, sport-based initiatives in urban contexts;
